This would have to be one of the biggest, loudest, most powerful yirdaki we have come across. Who made it? The wonderkid himself, young Master Larry Winiwini!

The bell is a ridiculous 12.5 to 15 cm in diameter. Mouthpiece is a comfortable 28 to 29 mm, all natural - no wax. The length is 153 cm. With these sorts of dimensions, you can imagine the raw power and the Formula 1 engine under the bonnet of this red hot yirdaki. Best of all, the F# overtone note comes naturally and is easy to hit - a rarity among big-bell instruments. The fundamental note plays in F to F# depending on how hard you push this fella... play it slow and gently and it cruises at F. Rev it up and put it into fifth gear and it roars at F#.

Note that this recording does not do justice to the sheer power and loudness of this stick. The automatic volume control on the video camera kicked in which brought the volume down... yet you can still hear some distortion. Awesome!

This yirdaki is looking for a good home to park in, so if you want to know more about it, check out:

  • He is just tapping out the rhythm to help keep time...

  • Frigging awesome! I'm not familiar with that totem. Great didge and of course, Larry is a stellar yidaki puller!
