This interview with Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke was conducted, I imagine, in the late '80s. It touches upon the play The Secret of Sherlock Holmes, as well as the Granada TV series.

I love the red socks too, got to get me some of those!

No contest! Jeremy Brett was the very best Sherlock Holmes interpretation.

From what he said at 3:51 imagine what he'd think of youtube/netflix. :D Now their "audience" can extend to any computer, even the pockets of many people, young and old alike. R.I.P., and may their wonderful performances echo long through these now-ubiquitous tubes.

He makes a mistake at 5:50, Sherlock Holmes did not live in Kent but in Sussex when he retired. ;)

These two gentlemen were very excellent in their respective portrayals of Holmes and Watson. ; they followed the storyline and lent a very human quality of fallibility, humor and believability to the series just great

Then, recently I watched the pilot of the new US series 'Elementary'....it's just like any other crime drama...I didn't watch beyond the pilot...

My intro. to the characters were the actual novels I read as a kid. I love dthe Granada series and Brett's Holmes because everything was so dead-on. Dislike the Downey Jr. film 'cos it just wasn't Holmes. So, when the BBC 'Sherlock' came out, I refused to watch it because I was biased and felt it would stink, esp. since it was a modern remake. But I decided to give it a chance some months back, and ended up watching both the seasons and loving them too. Now eagerly awaiting the 3rd season!

Considering the competetion, Brett being almost universally hailed as the greatest Sherlock Holmes is no small feat. The complete DVD collection inhabits a place of honor on my bookshelf :)
