An amendment that was written when guns were no more than glorified pop guns..There is no need for assault weapons except for military use..There has to be some sort of gun control.

Nice melody but I'll keep my guns you crazy liberals (sorry, redundant). It's call the right to bear-arms. That's right. I have the right to have a bear's arms and don't deny me.

Melt the recording industry with the sheer brilliance of this song. You'll gather your senses I'm sure - too late for that I'm afraid.

The Best...Not of any era. Never been a band like this. Brilliant in message and music. So sorry he was too shy to perform live, can't even imagine how wonderful that would have been.
-
Don't forget this was released a year or so after John Lennon was shot. Certainly this provided great impetus for the strong criticism of the US gun use at the time. Still a very timely and relevant thesis.

@Malkmusianful agreed, but even though it is very catchy still retains that typical XTC undercurrent of darkness that pervades all of their great work, from sings like "Life Is Good In The Greenhouse" through to "The Meeting Place". If I die without them reforming and touring again my life will be somehow incomplete.

@CONSIDERABLYMORE1 It's also so damn catchy.
It makes fighting for peace sound awesome.

@twowaterdogs Um, Walt Mink, Nirvana, and Neutral Milk Hotel can beat these guys at their game.
Or at least get their shoes shined by XTC's shoeshiners.
-
@artarthur2 Good on yer mate!

Truly gifted songwriters. Should have been super famous.
One of the most under-appreciated groups *ever*....it`s a shame that 90% of the "music groups" who have gotten recording contracts over the last 25 years can`t even shine the shoes of XTC....

Nearly thirty years on, this song still says it all. With panache.
