My first 16mm film short, made in early 1984 during my last year in engineering school at the University of Cincinnati. I took an elective film class and the assignment was to make a 2 minute movie, story boarding the shots beforehand. Other students produced some really funny short films. This was all I could think of and visualize. Film was shot using a 16mm Bolex turret lens camera. A hand held light meter (Sekonic?) helped with film exposures. I spent about $200 on 2 rolls of film & developing, 16mm full coat magnetic soundtrack tape, and lots of splice tape. A 4 gang synchronizer was used to mix sound clips copied from royalty free sound effects albums borrowed from the Cincinnati library. There is only one special effect in this film: the scene at the end where the mugger gets hit by a car. I recall that shot being filmed with the Bolex camera turned upside down with the"mugger" laid out/positioned across the windshield. I had the driver accelerate quickly in reverse, causing the mugger to roll off the hood of the car. In the editing room, the shot was spliced in "backwards and flipped" so that it would appear as though the mugger actually got hit by the car. I forgot the names of the two who played the mugger and his victim. Todd Macejko played the the guy running to help the woman. Todd also drove my car in reverse while I was behind the camera getting the final shot. What a lot of work it was back then just to create this 2 minute story! I got a few claps from the audience at our semester ending "film festival". My second project got a much better reception, and I hope to soon upload "project #2" to You Tube.
You should give it a real name ;)
Love the film though, I could never do this stuff in my wildest dreams
