Carlos Sainz. Campeonato del Mundo de Rallies.

Drive around some of the most challenging dirt-track racing courses currently available and race to become number one in the league, it takes quick reactions and nerves of steal without a co-pilot to help you around each corner.
Graphics

Carlos Sainz looks stunning from the moment the loading screen is presented. With vibrant colours, massive attention to detail both on the racing car and the overall course along with superb 3D rendered animation of the car and even skid smoke being left behind as you race around the corners this is one of the most detailed racing games in this genre.

The downside however is that while the game is more than playable it does suffer from a poor frame rate, moving along at 60MPH certainly doesn?t quite feel like that but if you can live with it - great work indeed!
Sound

Sound is a little bit of a let down however as there is no introduction music, though we do get some great reaction from the stereo sound once the game hits your screen. Skidding around the corners and driving at top speeds have all been given appropriate use of your sound hardware. Not bad at all.
Gameplay

Gameplay suffers slightly due to the very sensitive control system (stay away from the grass edges) and the slightly slow frame rate but once you get used to it this is one hell of a playable racer.

De nuevo tenemos otro ejemplo de licencias de deportistas de fama durante la Edad de Oro del Software Español. Zigurat se hizo con los deportistas españoles de motor más conocidos ya que, aparte de Sito Pons 500cc Grand Prix, se haría con los derechos del piloto de rallies de origen español más conocido, Carlos Sainz.

De esta manera nacería Carlos Sainz: Campeonato del Mundo de Rallies (también conocido como Carlos Sainz Rally), un proyecto liderado por José Miguel Saiz y Manuel Rosas, con un trabajo gráfico de José A. Carrera Merino.

En el videojuego nos ponemos en la piel del piloto madrileño al volante de su conocido Toyota.

Carlos Sainz Rally pretendía dar un enfoque de simulación al juego, eliminando los posibles elementos arcade por lo que la dificultad subí hasta niveles casi insoportables.

El control del coche es extraordinariamente dificil, siendo esencial hacer un buen uso del juego entre freno, freno de mano y acelerador, para no derrapar en exceso en las curvas y terminar colisionando.

El videojuego nos presenta una perspectiva aérea que ya se había visto en juegos como Aspar GP Master o el propio Sito Pons 500cc Grand Prix.

Esto permitía tener una perspectiva bastante amplia del circuito, ideal para ir programando cual será nuestro siguiente movimiento, esencial en este juego donde simplemente competiremos contra el reloj.

El videojuego fue lanzado para MSX, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum y PC, teniendo un acabado técnico bastante irregular entre las distintas versiones.

Las versiones de Spectrum y MSX eran la misma (de hecho la de MSX era una conversión de la otra, por lo que se desaprovecha en exceso la mayor capacidad técnica de la máquina nipona), donde nos encontramos con un scroll muy tosco, un sonido horrible y una nula respuesta del control.

La versión de PC cuenta con un mejor aspecto gráfico y control, aún así se nota que el juego fue concebido para 8 bits, por lo que tampoco aprovecha la capacidad de la máquina (además de contar con un sonido horrible).

La mejor versión es la de CPC, aprovechando todo su potencial y con un gran equilibrio entre sonido, gráficos y control.

Dude... you have to tap the fire button to stop the car sliding when you go round corners. Only then can you get a perfect lap without crashing.
