Part twelve of this instructional series covers how to perform the side snap kick. There are two variations of the side kick: one being the snap kick version and the other being the thrust kick version which we'll be covering in the next video that I hope to shoot and upload sometime tomorrow.

  • first 5s of the video i was gonna turn it of because of your ninja attire (which is, i presume, to keep your anonymity)

Nice job showing the difference between keage and kekomi yoko-geri.

    regards

  • @laokon thanks, I am thinking about redoing or taking down all these karate lesson videos because they were my oldest ones. I don't wear ninja attire anymore ;)

  • this is nothing like what i was taught in my shotokan club

  • @wingdflame Sorry, but that's probably because it's not from shotokan. I don't actually practice this style of karate anymore.

  • Your video was helpful. I understood the kick but never actually do it right because of my knee placement. But now seeing you video I understand what my Sensei meet by "leading with the knee". Of course you do it better than me but I think I can finally get this kick down. Thanks.

  • @PolarBearBlue no problem I am just glad it was able to help someone!

  • never seen this kick work.

  • @kickerwithkick2 Redo them, don't delete them :s

For once it's not the usual american McDojo crap with shitty explanations.

Not wanna brag, but i don't those, but i always enjoy refreshing memories of my karate times with vids like those. I changed discipline to one i enjoy more (hours of kata and bunkai are pretty boring) but many people try to learn improve online and find McSh*t and think that is karate...

Would be a shame to lose a video that's above that.

    regards

  • @wingdflame In shotokan you got yoko-geri,usualy it refers to yoko-geri kekomi (knee raised in front of the chest) with a motion going right through your target. he shows the keage version (shot for keri)age: jap. for lifting leg)which is a snapping kick. BOTH are used in shotokan.Look up Gangaku kata:1st and 4th are kekomi,2nd and 3rd are keage, even if people often do only keage since it's easier

I'm black belt shotokan since 2001,i'm not making things up

Regards and good luck training :)

  • i let out a burst of laugh at the start of this vid...
