Kitchen Tips: How to Vaccum Seal Bags for Freezer - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.

There are a lot of products on the market that you can buy to store which will suck the air out of a plastic bag. If you do not want to spend the money to do that, here is another way to do it without buying, without having to make a purchase. What I am using right here is oatmeal. So what I would suggest you do is get a re-sealable bag. You are going to seal halfway across. You are going to grab it like this, and you are going to push out as much air as you can. Then you are going to seal it the rest of the way, and as you are sealing it, you are pushing out all the excess air.
You are going to take it down like this, and by pushing out this air, you should end up with practically no air in there.

Air is the enemy. When you are freezing something long-term, you do not want to have air surrounding a product. Let's take a steak for instance. If you want to freeze a piece of steak, what you want to do is you want to make sure is that steak is totally patted dry, because the moisture will cause freezer burn. Totally pat it dry, wrap it in plastic, then put it in a Ziploc bag like I just showed you, and your steaks will stay in really great shape for 2 to 3 months. That is how I would suggest you vacuum seal a bag for long-term freezer storage.
