This song was a worldwide smash hit and one of the biggest selling singles of 1983. It is unclear what the song is about but the music video is a story in which Bonnie, who plays a school teacher, has the hots for her male students and is having a fantasy about them. The song that was released as a single was 4 and a half minutes long however the recording that is on Bonnie's album Faster Than The Speed Of Night is just over 7 minutes long. The shorter version that is more commonly know does not contain the third verse and the extended fade-out ending is trimmed. The "Turn Around" parts are sung by Rory Dodd. Bonnie released a French/ English version of the song titled, "Si demain... (Turn Around)" with Kareen Antonn which became a number 1 around Europe. The song was covered by Westlife in 2006 and in 2007 BabyPinkStar and Bonnie recorded an electronic remix verison of it. In 2009 Bonnie recorded the song once again with Welsh opera group Only Men Aloud. It was also covered by Nicki French in 1994. Bonnie made a parody of the song in 2010 for a MasterCard advertisement with lyrics containing, "Turn Around Neville". Most recently the song has appeared on popular TV show Glee. The song was a mega hit around the world and gave Gaynor Hopkins (a.k.a Bonnie Tyler) her second UK and US Top 5 and her only UK and US No.1. The song remained at No.1 in the UK for 2 weeks and for 4 weeks in America. This song also got Bonnie nominated for a Grammy in 1984 but unfortunately she lost out to Irene Cara's Flashdance... What a Feeling. She also performed Total Eclipse Of The Heart at the 1984 Grammy Award Ceremony. The song still remains Tyler's biggest selling hit and is one of the most remembered and recognizable songs of the 80s.

  • @ThePioneer29 The male vocal is by RORY DODD. Jim Steinman is fond of using the same core of musicians on many of his productions. Dodd is one the core people, along with Roy Bittan and Kasim Sultan... and sometimes Max Weinberg.

  • @thebloodbaby You are the fool! Why foul the words of those who love a great song and great singer?

  • I Heard without shadow that MAle Vocals were sang by Meatloaf & Bonnie Tyler, It 100% Truth

  • Three words, "baby makin' music".

  • The Nicki French cover completely misses the mark. This song is not meant to dance to, unless it's a slow dance. In 1995, I used to cringe every time I heard French's destruction of this song. Barf.

Bonnie Tyler OWNS this performance with a degree of divinity!

  • @redjed100 sorry but it is Night, have the album...

  • I just find this video. i like it.

  • I think that the song is about like Bonnie's man just walked out on her and it is tearing her apart. And the (turn around) is that he turned her back on her and she wants him to turn around. (turn around bright eyes) Is that she wants to see him in the eyes. So in the song she is fighting for him. That's what I think. Might not be the true meaning but that's what I get from it.

  • a great song!
