Alone In The City (lyrics)

And sometimes I feel alone,
I lay my head down but my thoughts still roam.
Am I alone in this metropolis?
But if we work together, man I know we can topple this!
We're two of the same so don't harass me
I was born like this, so no need to ask me
Instead we cut each other like surgery,
This is an emergency we need an urgency
To lift each other high
Instead of putting each other down, with these words that love to slip
We have to let those words die.
We need to speak new words like this scholarship
It's a little harder for me to be nor-mal
But I still find a way to be vo-cal
I'm trying to change our life for the better man
With every noun, every vowel, every letter man

[insert]
You know I always find it kind of funny, because my grandfather used to tell me, a man curses when he doesn't know what to say. The way it is today, you shouldn't have to put somebody else down to feel good about yourself.

Fighting words, heighten verbs,
That destroy, damage and disturb.
You know the words you use when you get around your friends
At first it's cool but then it transcends
Into something else that's more carefree
So choose the words you use, more carefully
I wish I could teach, I wish I could reach
The highest mountains with my words like a Dr. King speech
But, I was born with a speech Impediment
And everyday this is how I settle my sediment...

  • You are so inspiring...I almost cried. You speak truth and I am so thankful for you!!! 5 stars!!!

  • Peterpeat57,

Thank you so much. I am glad to hear that you were touched by this short film. We tend to forget that some of the very things we take for granted, such as our ability to speak- are a privilege and not a right. And we should act as so, and use it for positivity instead of destructing one another.

    Thanks again.

  • I got chills from your video you are truly talented and the conversation with your grandpa was deep. It reminds me that no matter the impairment we can all make a positive impact on someone. It's the best video I've seen yet.

  • Thank you for your kind words MsAnointed. I'm glad to see and hear that the same exact ideas I had envisioned in my mind, were conveyed to others through the use of film. One of the hardest things to do is to communicate effectively becuase it's so easy to get lost in translation.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it, and that you got chills. I still get chills every time I hear the National Anthem.

  • Your simplification of life's complexities was very well conveyed in your video. Appreciating our "Unique" situations, recognizing our Blessings and Loving our authenticity is a virtue that few posess. You Got It.

Your Grandfather seems like an intelligent man, who instilled in you all the traits to be a winner. I,truly, enjoyed the video. Congratulations on your win.

    Stay Focused!

    Stay Positive!

  • Touching message, one of my family's favorite videos in the contest. Do you really give out such cards to folks? Your responses are equally heart-warming. My son; daughter and myself each have a video in this contest. We live a simple life by choice; yet truly appreciate your reminder even the most basic things are precious gifts, not to be taken for granted. Speaking, seeing, hearing, touch; taste, not to mention health happiness, joy and love.'Good luck' JCK & Family
