Porto city, is known as the capital of the North of Portugal, or the undefeated city, the city that gave Portugal its name. Internationally famous for its wine, its bridges and its historical centre, distinguished as World Heritage by UNESCO, Porto is an important cultural centre and historically one of the political and economic pillars of the country. When we talk about the victorious city we cant forget its population that brings it to life and gives it more character and personality. The population has a strong accent that fills and resounds in your ears; theyre hardworking and enthusiastic, rough and opinionated. Porto is a symbol of progress that is not ashamed of its past and in it supports the present and plans the future. Future that according to Álvaro Castello-Branco, will have to be more sustainable. Portos municipality Councilor for the Environment considers that the Covenant of Mayors is a valuable tool, that it is ideal to show the way forward towards environmental sustainability.
