arr. for organ solo by H. A. Stamm. The piece was originally composed for violin solo. Later Bach enlarged it in a version for organ and orchestra as a sinfonia for his cantata No. 29. Recording from the concert on 3rd May 2009 in St. Cyriakus, Bottrop, Germany

  • Who's arrangement is this? Your phrasing is so much better than what can be found in most other videos.

  • it is my proper arrangement. The other arrangements I have seen apply the orchestral arrangement, that Bach made later, to the organ, including all chords of the trumpets etc. This forces the player to play some difficult passages, where the original violin line makes quick changes between high and low, only with the right hand. I reduced some of those chords, play the passages with both hands and this not only makes the music lighter, but also life much easier for the player.

  • Thank you Adri, I often heard this piece played much slower, even from a famous virtuoso like Latry.

The meaning about a "right speed" differs, even for the same person depending on his actual mood, but for me it always depends on the question, how long a phrase is spread and I think here it should have that drive...

  • excellent :)

  • Absolutely Brillaint....!!

    - my favourite organ piece.

  • Das ist eine unglaublich schoene Wiedergabe dieses Stueckes! Danke

  • Very bright, very colorfull ! Thanks

What is the temperament ? (Kellner ? Kirnberger ?)

  • Very good trascription and spectacular execution...

  • This is fresh. This is bright. This is glorious. This is BACH! The great master adapted and re-adapted his own music to different circumstances and occasions...your adaptation is magnificent and absolutely correct. The heavy (and I might say slavish) echoing of the full orchestral score that we hear in other versions does not thrill and does not work. Joel Hastings performs an astonishing transcription on the piano too, taking the wonderful, rich pedal notes and cross-handing to add them.

  • Great performance this Bach piece!

  • Thank you for sharing this Mr. Stamm. I imagine only a handful of people on the entire planet can play it like that.

  • Einfach grossartig!
