James Last is mostly associated with easy listening music but he has come up with more than a few gems and this is no exception. An up-tempo instrumental with a brilliant trombone solo by Olle Holmquist, a great solo sound on the sax by Stan Sulzmann, and just look at Terry Jenkins slamming at those drums! Brilliant.

  • This is definitely upbeat for James Last. One of the most intense orchestral instrumentals I have ever heard is kamarinskaja by him. Unfortunately no one has uploaded this masterpiece to Youtube. It starts off slow then just explodes half way through.

  • @john54542 The track you refer to is on the album Russland Erinnerungen, but to my knowledge is not captured on video anywhere. Shame as Hansi had a habit of "exploding" some tracks which was truely breathtaking. He has slowed down now, still he is nearly 82!

    Thanks for the comment :)

  • Would someone say to me, where and what year this show was made?

  • @SergioEHaidukJr This was recorded in 1982, Live in der Waldbuhne Berlin, Germany

  • How come you haven't credited Stan Sulzmann in the side bar? His sax solo is so frickin 1337!!!

  • Absolutely right - I've amended to credit Stan's great performance - and thanks for the comment :)

  • This music is at least from 12 years before I was born but I still find it mind blowing! :D

  • Not to forget the fine bass-work from Benny Bendorff. All musicians gave all ther power for this long arrangement!

  • @superlast

That's right, August, 29th, 1982, a James Last Production for ZDF.

  • That is it!

  • That is it!!
