@LonSeidman D90 and D300s have already been used to make small movies and commcercials. VERY successfully at that.
Like any video dslr you need proper equipment, skills and glass. Just 'having' it doesn't mean you 'can' do it :)

dude, i love your dog! is it a husky mixed with lab and german sheppard? oh also, which lense did u use?

My dog is a full bred Husky. She's a bit big for a female husky, a little taller but in good shape. She's 12 and a half!
I think I shot the porch shots with the 50mm 1.8 and the rest with the DX 18-200mm lens 3.5-5.6

quick question, pretty much new at this camera stuff, really really want to get into amateur film making...do you recommend the D300s or the D90?
And how long can you film with these cameras? Is it hard to learn?

The D90 would be a cheaper route, but neither of these cameras are up to par for film making just yet. They can do great video but the lack of full manual controls can get frustrating. Take a look at Canon's HFS10, really great video camera.
