Brilliant project - making that horrendous place that was hell to so many into a beautiful oasis while the ruins of the prison remain in the background reminding us of its original function. No amount of beauty or landscape artwork can erase its past but it could be considered an homage to all who were housed there - both the confined and the staff. Bravo !
I volunteered a few years ago. I remember removing invasive ivy from all over the place. It was a two day blast! We had the opportunity to see a lot of the behind the scene's of Alcatraz, and I highly recommend volunteering.
Thank you for sharing this. I love to see people taking back what once was and giving it to a new group of people who never got to experience it. Wonderful!
