The markings are similar to the ones the Templars used on sheilds.

Is it possible that the holes were used to look through to see the Ark? Or that they somehow offer clues as to where on the mountain the Ark would be?

Well it seems that we have some marine engineers here with fantastic ideas about the stones, and how they were used on Noahs ark. Good for them, even if these people are totally wrong. They were not used on Noahs ark. The ark was impossible, drogue stones or not.

Well, you're just guessing really. What kind of pattern does a boat dropping stones make?
Big rocks like that are essential for taking a ship down. What are "drogue stones" anyways?
The stones you think were on Noah's ark are actually from the very region they reside in, so did Noah travel there to get the rocks?

It probably was rope, forget what I said about chains. However, we can only imagine how thick that rope was...and I'm sure Noah new what he was doing when he made STRONG rope. Secondly, rope like that would not break with the buoyancy of the water. As the ship drifted, the anchor stones hung in the water, and this in-turn greatly alleviated the stress on the rope, AND the top of the rock.
why do they have cross-like patterns on em?

The Armenians put them on there in later centuries.
