@veritasvg I heard from somewhere that that particular laugh was real, and was made supposedly off-air (though recorded?) in response to a "certain ethnic joke" he had heard at the expense of one of the Stokes brothers. :D

Sad but funny? No, just funny. You're reading FAR too much into it. It's just a goof, making fun of the old lady's "certain ethnic background" in Cleveland.

Jay Lawrence on the laugh track. He's still doing radio in Phoenix (left Cleveland decades ago) and says BC&LJ used his laugh for probably forty years.
