A greek orthodox byzantine music improvisation (in the book there is only the lyrics), from the Holy Service of Good Friday morning - 2007. "Today is hanged on the wood, the One Who hanged the earth on the waters...".
The music is based on the D mode (Ichos 4th, "Agia") of the byzantine music, with the chroa of "Kliton" and corresponds to the "Nisabur" Arab-Persian makam.
The chanter Haris Symeonidis, in front of Jesus on the Cross, in the Holy Byzantine Church of Prophet Helias in Thessaloniki.

  • Cross with an icon of Jesus on it. Interesting.

  • Incredible chanting. Jesus told us to love everyone including those who may seem to deserve it the least. We have no place to judge.

Let's all enjoy celebrating Easter at the same time this year...Happy Easter everyone

  • good very very good my dear friend. I am a Catholic. May God bless you for you wide vision.

  • And what are we as Orthodox to do? Hate the Pope..hate Catholics..hate everyone? It is a positive step at least to be fellow brothers and sisters to one another. We pray for the whole world, for its salvation while at the same time defend the faith.

  • We have a mission to EVERYONE we meet in our lives to bring them to the True faith. From the love in our soul we should pray for all, even those who hate us. God rewards us by His grace. He sees everything, everyone and everything is His creation.

  • In America where I live we have many religions. We also, unfortunately, have people who join cults.. JW's..LDS..etc. These are the people we here should be worried most with...they steal people of weak faith away. It is important to remember that we as the Church pray for the salvation of everyone. As an Orthodox Christian I can tell you there are many faithful Catholics. We can't worry ourselves as to whether Mother Theresa is saved or not... that is ultimately in God's hands. Kat'oikonomeia.

  • Nice original Tessaloniki Eifos!!

  • dhatzinik, and also, to the best we can, live as Orthodox Christians, both for the benefit of our own souls, and as an example to the Heterodox. But more difficult, we also have the task of, when encountering New Calendarists, letting them know Orthodox need to bring the Heterodox into the Orthodox Church--the true path to Salvation. But my point is, some Heterodox don't care. That's why we need to tell them of our goal in this life, Theosis.

  • ICXCNIKA, I agree with your statements about Ecumenism and the New Calendar Church as well as with the statement that God is THE ONLY final judge of goes where after death. We simply have to spread out the word of God, as taught by the Church Fathers, and avoid making our own judgements on such issues as salvation.

  • dhatzinik, Ecumenism states that Orthodoxy is not the totality of Christianity; that's why Ecumenism is Satanic. Both God's uncreated (external and internal) energies are ever-present, but the latter, through which we achieve our goal in this life (Theosis) is only accessible through Baptism in the Orthodox Church. Thus, on this earth, non-Orthodox are cut off from the glory of God.
