From the Vaults presents... "Wipe Out" is a song written by Bob Berryhill, Pat Connolly, Jim Fuller and Ron Wilson. The song was first performed and recorded by The Surfaris, who were elevated to international status with the release of the "Surfer Joe" and "Wipe Out" single—none of which concerned the boys of Mirage in the slightest as they entertained on the Jr. High gymnasium stage for their 'farewell concert' of 1980. The term 'wipeout' is a fall from a surfboard, especially one that looks painful. This is the painful ninth nugget in the From The Vaults Difficult-to-Hear Series from Ruckus Recordings. (That's just what I call the stuff I've recorded—and there's more to come.)
"Mirage" was a band originally conceived with the encouragement of Phil Skelly, our music instructor. It featured Andy Frankenfeld, Dana Andrews, Russell "Rusty" Holbrook, teen heartthrob Kent Fierstine, and others. I served a brief but solid stint as the lead vocalist in this nearly semi-legendary pop music combo. I am not featured on this recording.

I stand corrected. Are those occasional picking upstrokes I hear in there? Most likely it's all down-picking. This is herky-jerky surf rock at its finest.

Probably Sr. Russell Holbrook on guitar. But, like the Yardbirds, why quiblle over which guitar hero it was?
