McCain campaign: Keating Five investigation was a smear job

John McCain's lawyer today said that the Keating Five investigation was a "political smear job" against John McCain by "stooges." Interesting, considering that John McCain built his entire "maverick" image on his admitting to a "giant mistake" in the Keating scandal. So now McCain is saying he did nothing wrong, and the investigation was a partisan witch hunt? Huh? So McCain isn't sorry for what he did. Wow. Talk about opening up a can of worms.

there shoulda been a rethink after the s&l crisis...and there was, and we were assured that it wouldnt happen again...but then clinton got a bj and started doing the bidding of republicans, including signing bills that lessened oversight...then bush came into office, and all bets were off...then 9/11 happened and everyone took their eyes off the ball, which allowed wallstreet to go crazy...we are not gonna recover from this recent crash...we cant, we dont have a manufacturing base anymore

Sorry lionsgateblows, I'm English and trying to follow the presidential debate. I understand that McCain has been linked with S&ls disaster. Are you, as a US citizen, saying that the Red in tooth & claw capitalism that has served the US so well in the past, is now worthy of hatred? It strikes me that if that's so, a whole re-think of American values could be about to happen? Not in a way that involves the US hating itself, but just being a bit more outward looking.
