Nice logic, idiot. They were mulling this purchase over back in THE 1980'S, WHEN THESE PLANES WERE $10 MILLION, NOT $26. And besides, they could have bought them like the Canadians and leased them out to the rest of the western US states like Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Idaho. I am a business owner in California and don't lecture me on business or the state government here. They have ravaged this state's economy, reputation, and way of life with their ineptitude.
Dear Corona67, Do you have ANY idea how much one of these planes costs? How about $26. million. It would take about 9 years to get our money back on that + the few hundred thousand dollars for maint. and crew that would be sitting around for 8 months out of the year because the fire season is only 3 or 4 months long. Not to mention training a crew. Ya thats a great idea lets see..$26. million or $3.million.a season I don't know. In case you haden't heared CA. is bankrupt. PULL YOUR HEAD OUT!!
We should have bought them 20 years ago, but guess what? The wonderful state of California couldn't make up their mind and said they were too expensive. So now we lease them from Canada for millions of dollars per season when we could have had our own fleet by now and had them paid for outright. The government of California is a joke. Hope this helps.
That is amazing! I just read about this in a physics book and said, "We can do this?!" and I just HAD to see it! Thanks for sharing this KTLA!
