From my understanding, if you are not strictly following the four regulative principles, no meat eating, intoxication, specualtion/gambling, and illicit sex-- This mantra will actually hurt your spiritual growth.

The Gayathri is a very powerful mantra on its own. It should not have so much of other music like a movie or pop song. It is melodious and powerful on its own. Unfortunately, most people do not understand that vedic mantras are not meant to be mixed with rock music.
