Evolution does not require faith. Its easy to get sucked into this spiral, and it is very different on paper vs. when you're actually in the heat of a discussion. Here are some things to look out for.

  • "science adjusts its views based on whats observed, faith is the denial of whats observed so that belief can be preserved" ends the argument

Quote from Tim Minchin 's poem Storm

  • @mrreos09 "All i am saying is if life was created by primordial goo, scientists should be able to recreate original life, but they cannot"

What exactly is the link between that and the cambrian explosion? Following your logic, if you were created by your parents, scientists should be able to recreate you, but they cannot. Since when exactly scientists are supposed to recreate everything? Btw, nice quote mining on Dawkins there. Dare to share the rest of the reasoning with us?

  • Its a common misconception that science has got it all worked out. We've come a long way in the last few hundred years but there remain questions that are beyond the tool box of science. As this video demonstrates we've probably come far enough to be able to discount the views of all of our main religions, particularly in regard to evolution. But there is such a vast world out there, I urge all of you to at least be open to the possibility that there is something beyond what we know today

  • one thing I've been thinking about a lot lately are personality how this applies to this debate. Some people make decisions with their emotions or feelings and some people make decisions with thoughts detached from emotion (most scientists think like this). This is always important to remember when talking with religious people as most often they are feelers, if you want to get through to them you have to get them to feel it, not think through the facts.

Why am I responding to this troll?

  • Nice one! I don't want to get sucked into any hole.

  • That was the smartest Fundie they ever had!

  • So, to interpret your fundamental point: Are you saying that there is a uniformed consensus among the scientific community which puts the theory of evolution beyond reasonable doubt for the time being? And what do you do with those from all walks of life (not just Biblical creationists) who repeatedly point out the leaps in reason used to hold the theory together and who choose to regard and interpret ALL available evidence, not just that which CAN be interpreted as supporting evolution?

  • ... Put another way: scientific theories are abstract models of reality. They stand or fall by how well their predictions are borne out in reality. The more the evidence from independent teams and lines of research points in the same direction, the surer we are that a theory is an accurate (i.e. useful) model of reality. But they are never "proved", only put beyond reasonable doubt for the time being. One cannot *know* that no evidence will ever appear to contradict a theory.

  • @salmagnum Yes, it is bad to ask for proof, because it displays ignorance of the nature of scientific knowledge. If you don't understand that fundamental point, then it is futile to try to persuade you of anything.

For instance: Are you convinced that atoms exist, and that they consist of negatively-charged electrons orbiting positively-charged nuclei? If so, prove it. (And if not, what do you know that the physicists don't?)

  • Summation of vid:

"Be careful to watch out for the sneaky logic of creationists, better just to blindly dismiss whatever they say."

Just 1 example of MACRO EVOLUTION and I will concede that evolution is more than a belief system.Dance and squirm all you like, rationalize your beliefs as "fact",ALL humans are extremely adept at this- but at the end of the day, it is your side indoctrinating the gullible minds of our young with your belief-system-as-fact, so is it really so bad we ask for PROOF?
