You know, here in Germany, in some political circles it's quite fashionable to ridicule U.S. Americans as militarist cowboys from hick-town and the U.S. as a country without proper history and culture. When I watch your videos, I am just amazed at the wonderful, vivid folk music culture you U.S. guys have, keeping alive songs that were sung by folks way back in the days, and the spirituality connected therewith. I'm actually not sure if we have somthing comparable in Germany. Outstanding work!

The Timber of your voice really gives the song a very interesting, almost mysterious like quality. This is great stuff man, I haven't heard other folks sound this way.

Hey Tim, what tuning are you using?
-
@evilklabautermann our folk culture is responsible for 99% of any and all music you probably listen to. just FYI.

To answer for Krig, I have read the same info. In a history of the Kings of the Crusade.

Song and performance are outstanding.

Another great performance by Tim. See also version by Waterson/Carthy. I like that guitar approach reminiscent of Lindsey Buckingham but actually common in old timey music from the twenties and thirties.

you need to come to galax va to the old time fiddler's convention

Tim I've been trying to work this out on guitar, what tuning are using? Its throwing me off a little. Thanks!

@batfancy Tim Eriksen is into metal? I thought I was the only person who liked American folk as well as metal.

@KrigUlv82 Actually, it's about the Seven Years War. The original lyrics say he's gone to Flanders to fight for a king.
is this a song about the american revolution??

good question. It's based on a song that was well known in 1776, but it was already old at that point. (The music is new).

im more into thrash and death metal. this is nothing like i play guitar. but i do have to say this is pretty sweet. especially the capo on the 7th fret. i barley ever see anyone go any farther than the 4th or 5th fret. this makes me wanna go dig out my acoustic guitar for a little bit.

glad you like it. I'm more into thrash and metal myself, but I mostly play acoustic these days.

Yeah, come on out. We have our summer all day on July 5 this year, followed by our monthy multi-book sing and annual Harp of Ages singing on Monday.
