The original soundtrack to the 1980 film, Inferno.

Tracks & length:
#1 Inferno (02:55)
#2 Rose's Descent Into The Cellar (04:56)

Track 1 is the main title theme and track 2 played during the scene where Rose Elliot goes looking for "the second key" in the flooded room.

A definite divider in opinions. Keith Emerson's score for Inferno has received just as much positive feedback as it has negative. Some consider it to be haunting and perfect while others find it distractive and completely unfitting for the film.

Inferno was the first Argento movie I ever saw and therefore it has a special meaning to me. I remember being mesmerized by the film's peculiar gothic atmosphere. The colors, the sounds, everything. It might not be Argento's best work but it sure is one interesting little movie.

My views split two ways with the soundtrack. Half of the score is good to me, half is just not that memorable nor fitting. The highlights for me are "Inferno", "Sara In The Library Vaults", "Elise's Story" and "Mater Tenebrarum".

Music by Keith Emerson.

Film by Dario Argento.

  • The first track, starting so slowly, classically, beautifully. My favorite track next to the main theme.

  • another movie that springs to mind is THE KEEP. the soundtrack is awesome.

  • inferno has a class that other films do not have. After all these years it's still a pleasure to watch. music is excellent, Mater Tenebrarum is a classic!

  • I think the music in Inferno is equally great with the music for example in Suspiria. And there's many great scenes in Inferno, the underwater room scene and guillotine window scene among them.

  • bellissima eccezionale grande keith

  • the tone of inferno, and that first scene are character of a dreamy sense of fear so many horror directors have intentionally and unintentionally tried to reproduce or imitate. Argento's a genius. Way ahead of his time and even ahead of our time.

  • @BADSYNE that is one of my favorite parts of the movie, and Rose swimming around in that room, once I saw that opening sequence I have never forgotten it. The whole opening with Rose actress Irene Miracle who I really wish would have done a lot more is my favorite opening to any horror movie ever.

  • The beautiful sister holding the cat in music class. Hot!!!
