i remember reading the book about him called "Depraved"... the book details secret passageways and hidden rooms, Holmes having used multiple contractors that would each only be allowed to build small sections of his "castle" before being fired/replaced so that none except him knew what the building as a whole looked like. that's some seriously sadistic and crafty premeditation.

Holmes lived in Irvington, In. for a few years before he fled to Chicago. He took in 2 young orphaned brothers killing them both before fleeing. His house is purportedly haunted & is featured on the annual Irvington ghost walk.

I've heard that Holmes' parents' house is still standing in Gilmanton.

Yes Holmes' childhood home is in Gilmanton and featured in my film. I spent some time in there with the owners.
