This is a documentary about the making of Peter Lorre's only film as a director, 'Der Verlorene'.

If you can survive the passages with the flabby film historian who goes on and on with (at times) unimportant factual trivia, this documentary is well worth watching thanks to the sometimes funny and consistently witty commentary of the exuberant and colourful Gisela Trowe, who shares her reminiscences of working on this film with Peter Lorre.

A million thanks to my dear Pip, for his invaluable help with the translation. I owe you a thousand Easter chocolate bunnies, babe ;-)

  • Thank you! Is this the extra material of the German DVD?

"The first serial killer in a movie" ever? I doubt that somehow... but I might be wrong.

  • I find it hard to believe, too, but I can't think of a previous example. Yes this doc is featured as an extra to the German edition.

  • @lapislazuli7 You are right - A 'Jack the Ripper' killer featured in Hitchcock's "The Lodger" 1927, and in "Pandora's Box" (1929) but "M" is the earliest film I can think of where the main actor played a serial killer.

  • WUNDERBAR! Thank you for posting this fascinating footage !!!

    :-)

  • Hat jemand den Film 'Fünf von der Jazz Band'? Danke!

  • @raeuberlighter77

    Ich auch!

  • 70 Minuten dichteste Information, hochpräzise montiert, großartig! Eine würdevolle Hommage an einen genialen Künstler, dessen Gesicht einen zu Tränen rühren kann.

  • Thank you very, very much for posting this. It is absolutly awesome.
