Playing one of the sweeping sections in "The Butcher" by Rusty Cooley; first with normal sweep picking and a second time with my left hand/tapping only.

Was fun and a good workout for my left hand. :)

  • rg7321? nice sweep tho \m/

  • @rick666555 yes, rg7321. ;)

  • Flawless cover! I started this today at 130bpm triplets, half the speed..I have trouble muting when notes are used on the 12th fret (probably because of the natural harmonic) - do you have any tips for overcoming this?

  • @VypyrVai Thanks. Well, you could use a sock to dampen the strings. ;) To be honest, I never really payed a lot attention to muting the notes...it just got clean after a lot of practice. Since you just started with practicing it, you shouldn't worry too much. Sweep picking is all about the coordination between right and left hand...once the coordination is "perfect", the unwanted string noises should disappear.

  • @GoldfishMoon79 If you keep improving like that, then you will be able to play it soon; but don't stress it. Clean playing is the most important thing. So give it the time it needs -it will be more satisfying eventually. I have been playing for about 7-8 years I think; I got into the shred-stuff around 4 years ago. :) That's when I started to actually practice. ;)

  • @ruonitb Also, how long have you been playin for?

  • @ruonitb Oh ok. Thanks for the info. I was only able too sweep pick cleanly at bellow 100 bpm (sixteenth notes) before practicing this. After a week or 2 of hard practice I have now brought that up 26 bpm. Is that a decent amount of improvement to realisitcaly be able to play this anytime soon?

  • @GoldfishMoon79 I really can't tell you since I was able to sweep pick before learning this solo part; so I really only had to download the tabs and could just play it. But usually, once you are good at sweep picking, speeding it up can be very easy and done in a short amount of time. Just keep on practicing with a metronome and increase the speed as soon as you can play it tight/clean. :)

  • How much did you have to practice to do that song?

I have only been sweeping for a little while ,a dI am plkaying this for practice? I worked it out to be (Hopefully correct) sixteenth notes at 198 bpm, and I can currently do it at around 126. How long do you thing it would take me to reach up to speed?

  • @Benobot99 Maybe if you were playing guitar hero, but if you hammer-on hard enough the note rings out just fine.
