Medical Physicists work in an exciting and dynamic field utilizing physics and advanced technology for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The work of a Medical Physicist often involves the use of x-rays, ultrasound, magnetic and electric fields, infra-red and ultraviolet light, heat and lasers in diagnosis and therapy. The majority of Medical Physicists work in hospital diagnostic imaging departments, cancer treatment facilities, or hospital-based research establishments. Approximate salary: $90,000 - $150,000 +

High school preparation: Academic high school diploma with an emphasis on Sciences and Mathematics.

Academic requirements: Bachelor of Science in Physics, Master of Science in Physics (preferably Medical Physics), Doctorate in Biomedical Physics (optional) (preferably Medical Physics), 2 year residency in Medical Physics, Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine Certification or equivalent.

  • @Mufaso1000 No. As it pertains to this field, a medical physicist tests and operates equipment involved in radiological medicine and testing, evaluates radiation risks to humans and communities, and plays a critical role in radiation emergencies and preparedness. They also teach the physics of radiation. A radiological technologist performs medical diagnostic procedures with the use of imaging technology, usually through the use of ionizing radiation.
