Captioned video on how to properly deploy & use a rescue stirrup in the case of a capsize. Original video by gibo1971, I just used it to caption what was happening since it was such a great demo.

  • Looks like a good idea and I could see it being very useful. But dang it takes to long. Practical for use in an ocean or a lake but try pulling that off in a class 4 rapid. And a roll class would cost you the same as that rescue stirrup.

  • @greghobson Thanks for the comment. However, as the title says, this is a SEA kayak demonstration. You would never be on a rapid in a sea kayak, you'd use a river kayak for this. However, you are correct that this method takes longer than other methods, but this is only true presuming that all methods are equally practiced and that the individual possesses the upper body strength for them. This is easy to teach new kayakers I am taking out, and requires lower body strength instead of upper.

  • @greghobson Also, the strap cost me $6, and roll classes aren't available where *I* live for that cheap, I don't know about you :)

  • This is a lot easier than learning to roll! It takes so long however it is only feasible in warm water. Do not rely on something like this in cold water, you may not be able to do it before you lose muscle control.
