So that was an amazing first week! I am shocked that so many people find my life even a tiny bit interesting. So Episode 3!!! Inspired by Reggie on Facebook, I made this video about my parents so you can get to know them a little more. - But actually showing them? Well that would require me telling them that I'm doing this... so that's going to be a "no". Or at least a "not yet".

While we're on the topic of Lizzie's slut shaming, I think it's important to examine how Lydia treats Lizzie in addition to how Lizzie treats Lydia. Throughout the series, Lydia has called Lizzie perpetually single, a nerd, unattractive, boring, etc, and although it's funny to us, it probably isn't that funny to Lizzie. Lizzie isn't the only one at fault; they both misunderstand each other. I feel like this dynamic, which is not one-sided, allows us to further understand their relationship.

But Lydia DOES actually get hurt by Lizzie's slut-shaming comments. It's too early to see now, but it comes into play later in the series and is one of the reasons Lydia distances herself from her sisters. So it's not all jokes; like it shouldn't be. Fictional characters or not.

I agree with you - although it does come into play later in the series, as a gradual thing; Lydia being sort of on her own while Jane and Lizzie are The Best Friends Sisters, because Lizzie slut-shames Lydia a lot. And then it blows up in their faces and things get better. So there's that?

Man, some of these comments are cracking me up. Everyone needs to remember that these characters are loosely based on characters from Pride and Prejudice. If you transported Lydia's level of "flirting" from the Regency era of England to the 21st Century, Lydia could be jokingly called "a slut." Also, keep in mind that this is sister to sister insults. Lizzie knows how to push Lydia's "buttons" as does Lydia to Lizzie.

You don't understand. People judge. It's what they do. Lizzie has never known what it is like to lose everything and to be treated terribly. Harry Potter learned when he was young that you should never judge or kill, because he was wronged. Lizzie has a long way to go before she learns what it is like to truly be underprivelaged. Also every one has flaws. People call other people sluts all the time, mostly young and immature. Is that the same as murder. No! Lizzie saw the error of her ways.
