Here is a clip from the 2nd Samhaine episode, where he escapes from the containment unit and turns the Firehouse into a Spirit Fortress.

And yes, its spelled "SAMHAINE" with an e, even though it is misspelled everywhere else, including the boneheads behind his action figure, who thought he was "Sam Hain"

(Apologies for the quality, but its from an old tape and had to be compressed twice, once by me and again by Youtube).

Samhaine was originally captured a year before in an episode written by the creator of Babylon 5, J. Michael Straczynski. Although he was popular enough to be one of the few ghosts to recieve his own action figure, and would be seen a few times more in cameos here and there (including the opening credits to the EXTREME Ghostbusters, ten year later), he had only the two episodes as his own. JMS did write another Halloween ep for the 1989 season, but decided to (aghast) leave Samhaine out of it.

  • Just a couple of points -

Regarding the spelling of Samhain, as in the irish gaelic word, it actually doesn't have an 'e' at the end of it.

Also, it always makes me laugh how in anything I've seen the word in (Ghostbusters, Halloween III etc...) it's always pronounced 'sam hain' but in actual fact the correct pronunciation is 'sow-an.' In the irish language an 'mh' is a 'w' sound.

Oh, and the character Samhain was definitely one of the best that the Real Ghostbusters ever had.

  • In the notes and script material, "Samhain" is listed as a single word, as it should be. It was only the screw-ups that came later who didnt know diddly and put 'Sam Hain' on the action figure and tomstones.

  • Dave Coulier's Venkman, despite sounding more like Bill Murray, is inferior to Lorenzo Music's take on the character. Well I think so anyway.

  • Since Lorenzo was the first Venkman, he will always have a place in our hearts. But since he was in more episodes than Coulier (that first season had what, 80 episodes?) Lorenzo got the last laugh. Coulier grew on me though, and I accepted him.

  • It is spelled Samhain...pronounced Sow-en...and it is the forefather of this "Halloween" holiday... It is my people's ancient holiday....I like mocking you.

  • (You can call up the Ghost of Halloween himself and ask for his opinion if you are that upset, but its hardly worth getting excited about. My Irish blood says its ok, as do the dozen Halloween costumes in my closet, and the proportionately carved Samhaine pumpkin head sitting on my front porch as we speak. Do us Irish adults a favor and get your jollies in a more productive way than "mocking" anyone, we are better than that.)

  • @AtticusRh0des For one thing, I wasn't being rude, my comment was about the way the word was used, I was merely pointing out to the person that posted it that the Irish word Samhain doesn't have an 'e' at the end of it, they didn't take offence, why should you?

Secondly, I live in Ireland, I grew up in Ireland and learned Irish at school every day of my life for 13 years, regardless of where it is discussed or written, the way I wrote it is the way it's pronounced by Irish speakers.

  • @Tomarlo also if your gonna be rude like that make sure yoy give how to properly say the name, Samhain = Sal Whein(pronouciation) and before you say "thats not right bulllllllshit bull bull shit bull shi etc " its discussed on the rgb box set, and its in several celtic spirit guides.

  • Thats funny thats the same reason why i looked u p this episode

  • here i am watching supernatural when they mention samhain, and immediately i thought about this 20yr old cartoon and had to look it up on youtube. i love how supernatural takes real lore and folk tales and weave them into a story.

  • His first ep was "When Halloween Was Forever"

Then this one "Halloween 2 1/2"

After that, its just 5 sec cameos here and there whenever the Ghostbusters go inside the containment unit for one reason or another.

"Xmas marks the Spot" for example (also uploaded here), and there's a couple more whose titles I dont know, but wikipedia does.

  • Which episodes did this guy appear in? I'd appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

  • Egon... who cuts your hair?

  • He's an Gaelic Spirit.
