  • AA kept me drunk for years. The powerlessness I felt while in AA is indescribable.

  • @dimefeet

If we were all inclined to look within for some sort of connection with something bigger than ourselves & assessed our own behaviour each day to see if we have behaved in a kind, ethical & loving way towards all - the world might well be a more pleasant place

I guess such practices would be deemed cultish to those without a conscience. But then, it's because of a lack of personal strength, conscience & care for others that we are living through a fascist dictatorship takeover

  • @explorer2101 If you don't see that AA is a faith healing cult that teaches learned helplessness and that one must believe in a being with whom you can telepathically communicate (pray/meditate) for help, you've either been indoctrinated, or you haven't been to AA.

  • @dimefeet

I struggle to see how it can be a 'cult' when people are encouraged to develop their own beliefs & spirituality, they are free to come or leave as they wish. There are no requirements at all from the people who attend and one can believe whatever it is you wish. Doesn't seem like a cult to me.

Churches all around the globe (most of which fit the description of a cult) are not so lenient and in my experience are far more judgemental, controlling & harmful.

  • @explorer2101 AA doesn't work for millions of people. Their decision to not drink, one day at a time, has worked for millions of people. No need for a faith-healing cult like AA to do that.

  • No....AA 12 Steppers are WORSE than Fundamentalist Xtians......and THAT is quite a feat to accomplish.

  • What is it with those who want to rubbish something that works for millions of people across the globe? People who will tell you that their lives are richly improved with the help of the 12 Step Programme. People who have managed to turn themselves around to find a life that is uplifting, fulfilling, happy, productive & creative.

It's a simple program, offered free - provided by the people, for the people

Take it if it works for you

Get on with your life elsewhere if it doesn't

    Simples :-)

  • @CampsSuck Good observations,12 stepism is such a demeaning cult!

  • Actually, 12steppers are more akin to fundamentalist Islam rather than Christianity, I must dissent from you on this...
