It's not really cruel.. You're normally giving the spider a much longer life than it would've had in the wild. Most spiderlings die before they reach maturity, so when you buy yourself a sling, you may have saved something that otherwise would've been eaten in the wild.
As for wild caught specimens, that is more of an iffy subject. So long as you get captive bred I wouldn't worry.
