dr. william van druten phd, and dr. william graham phd. van druten is an atheist, graham is a catholic priest.

both are terrific speakers, and both are kind people.

the room consists of the lake superior freethinkers. sorry for the background noise, as there is a breakfast being served and devoured.

Graham spoke on for another 20 minutes (the best part), but i didn't realize i had forgotten to delete previous material on the camera's hard drive...so this is all you get.

  • Semantics!

Truth is either true or not. You're either pregnant or you arent! It's just word games.

    Thanks for the clips.

  • For a catholic minister, Mr Graham seems remarkably open minded! However I don't understand how he could accept the bible contains myths, and not have his faith in doubt.

I do like the fact that he mentions that truth has to apply to everyone.

    Reality is truth.

    Science tries to understand it.

    Religion says it understands it.

  • Thanks for sharing this video with the world. We need more reasoning and less dogma.

  • @Mystagogia87 Thanks.

  • @L00NGB00W I'm sure this priest believes in creation. Just because he doesn't take genesis as science doesn't mean that he doubts God as creator. And even if Genesis gives us myths, it is still possible that there was an original sin, as many believe. And even if there wasn't one, that doesn't change the fact that human beings still find selfish desires within themselves. I recommend you take a look at channel wordonfirevideo and his commentary on Genesis.

  • @Mystagogia87 Yes, myths can contain moral lessons, and some fundamental truths.

But certain denominations of Christianity place great weight on these tales. 'Eden' is a great example, because from the story of Eden stems the concept of original sin. Because If these events never happened (Which I don't think they did), It severely compromises the guilt trip the church can lay down upon it's parishioners.

Without creation and original sin, the import of their message is diminished.

  • @L00NGB00W " I don't understand how he could accept the bible contains myths, and not have his faith in doubt."

Despite the pejorative way the word "myth" is used nowadays, myths can actually bear profound truth. The myth of the garden of eden, for example, I think speaks volumes of truth about human beings' tendencies towards certain kinds of dysfucntion, and the attraction of the human psyche to forbidden fruit.

  • A Catholic priest refers to the Bible as myth and propaganda. WOW! I think that shows the level of importance placed upon dogma in the Catholic faith. If you're willing to say those things about the Bible, dogma is the only thing keeping you from non-belief...

  • @thatgaybloke Oh no. There's a rat in the Vatican who values his club more than the safety of children. He brings shame on that whole organization.

  • When he ask who would defend the priests' rape of children, am I the only one who thought "your Pope"?

  • i wish more people would understand that beliefs don't mean friendship.

btw nice to have you back holybabble
