  • Beautifully done.

  • Not so depressing as you think. my young pupils really into Miles etc as is my son who plays bass. I am a woman and definitely into all the 50s 60s jazz era. I blame the media tho for only showing smooth stuff nowadays, I agree there. You tube fab source for youngsters dont you think? Jillx

  • Amen! I was just there tonight and found out about the possibility of the club closing. It's a damn shame if that ever happens.

  • Why won't Oprah interview true jazz greats like Kenny Burrell. It seems to be okay with most of us who too. Watch out for Chris Rock's , new movie,"Good Hair" I believe it's related to the demise of jazz.. Self hate and disrespect for Africa has basically flourished because of the horrific consequences of slavery for over 240 years. Some say reparations aren't in order..among those whose ancestors were slaves and who voted for Bush

  • Awesome..You have more sense then those adults who'd rather support smooth Jazz . Listen to all old school soul music/s Avoid stupid adults as much as possible. get an education and watch out for mis-education. mis -education is behind much of what's happening globally. There more then the three r's. History is one of the most despised subjects. Sad! All setup by evil design. Look up"Olmecs of Mexico".

  • this is sad...but very true. here in detroit though, jazz is still fluent.

at least thats the way i see it..i love bakers. its a great place. im still quite young...16 and i believe that eventually true...classic jazz will be brought back...charlie parker...miles davis...art blakey...the greats...one day.

  • Jazz is almost completely dead. Smooth Jazz and Avant Garde are both considered the only real forms of jazz considered by women and the young. These were among the most important groups to impress when jazz was based off swing, blues, and melody. School trained musicians with no real original stories are producing technical based tunes. The old school greats cats are overlooked on shows like the Oprah Show. The music programs are terrible in most inner city schools.

  • I just had the most amazing time at Baker's back in the winter of 2006! I refuse to believe that that kinda place will be closed. You guys in Detroit should do something about it...

  • It is so sad to hear that Bakers may be closing, I saw all the greats there in the 70s., damn say it aint so.

  • Can't something be done to save this venerable institution? Why don't today's Jazz greats step forward to do a series of fund raising concerts to help the old place out? it would be yet another act of cultural genocide to simply let Baker's go.
