Making a Simple Survival Bush Bow for Hunting

Here's a simple bow anyone can make using tools found in any garage. The technique is simple and straight forward, but remember, if you ain't breaking you ain't making.

@joec123able After building a few dozen bows over the last 10 years I've come to realize that's one of those rules that nobody can adequately explain the reason for other than 'it'll break'. Depending on the size of the log you drew the stave from, the sap wood can be from an inch to several thick. The only rule is to draw your material off in layers (one ring at a time) so that you don't expose any weak points where the wood can splinter.

Hello might I recomend starting the slit in the middle then working out from the middle twards the end.

@Blackhatarcher With the knots I had to 'steer' it and couldn't let the split happen naturally. The idea being to show how to overcome less than perfect staves for a quick bow powerful enough to take down some bigger game. On a quality build where I would have time to find the perfect stave then splitting in the middle definitely makes more sense for sure.

@queersackofshit Stick with hard woods like ash, hickory, maple and elm. I've used oak, but find it tends to suffer catastrophic failures, and I mean catastrophic.
