  • I guess nobody thought there was any need to change the lyrics to fit the context :-P

Here's hoping that they get it right NEXT time...if there is a next time for this amazingly gothic, romantic, musical (fingers crossed it comes to Australia some day...heck, bring the German version, I'd go see it!).

  • @richard20bris: Ummm, Jim Steinman completely re-wrote the lyrics to this song for the show...

  • @MrVonKrolock its not completely re-written, but it is changed a little.

  • @MarleneSophieCompton : Pretty substantially, with the exception of the chorus.

  • the German version is the best one!

    Roman Polanski ♥

  • No wonder this was a flop. Having seen the German production in Oberhausen and been in a production of it myself, I think this is appalling. Why change and alter things that are perfect as they are? Lyric translation, harmonies and choreography are just awful, not to mention the lack of rock qualities to their voices...this is supposed to be a rock musical. I wish Stage Entertainment would bring a production of it over here or on Broadway with a decent transcript and better cast.

  • This is terrible... I agree - no wonder this flopped! The lyrics aren't half as nice, and why did they have to change the background music? The guitars sound wonderful. And Michael Crawford's voice just isn't right. It's just not rich enough. It's a good piece though - I think they should have another go but not mess around with it.

  • @MyVeryOwnWonderland I'm American and I agree with you... :I

  • wow I feel really sorry for you americans. This version is awful. I've seen the musical several times in Stuttgart and if you want to listen to a wonderful Krolock type in "Jan Ammann" who has played the role in Stuttgart, he's amazing. Thumbs up if you think so too!

  • The german an the Bonny Tyler Version is better!

  • I can't understand a word of German. But the German version is perfect! (as long as I have subtitles).......this version is a load of pish, sounds like a Disney cartoon...actually it's not even as good as a Disney cartoon

  • The hungarian and german version is better.

  • Holy crap, I didn't even know there *was* an English version! I think I'll go back to listening to the German one now

  • @LordCyrillus he didn't "had" to star! as far as I know he was the producer of the brodway production as well. He is also responsible for the changes of the show and made with it the most expensive broadwayflop in history (I don't know if there was a more expensive one in the meantime).

Drew Sarish also stared at the viennese production-he also has a higher voice than the other Krolocks, but fits into the role almost perfectly-->you can also find a video with th "unstillbare gier)

  • Just saw the show in Finnish tonight and I swear it sounded so much better than this...

  • the german one is so much better !
