A collection of short animations, from 2007 projects from my second year at university to 2010 recent pieces.

The first piece was a university project, called 'Colour Jam'. We had to produce an animation in time to a piece of music. I made an abstract arrangement of shapes and colours to Exilon's track 'Opus'. Made using Toon Boom, 2007.

The second piece is an animated/time-lapsed drawing, ball-point pen on paper, unplanned and improvised drawing, about 2 hours work. Made 2010.

The third piece is the original test footage I made before my second year film Gigermorph. In order to make something complex grow from nothing, I reversed the film: I built something complex and carved away at it, removing bits while I filmed it, then when played backwards it looks like it grows. It's easier to destroy something slowly, than slowly build something a frame at a time to look perfect. I had no idea if my idea would work and so I made this test piece, taking about 2 weeks to film. Although the camera work is very shaky and constantly moving, I think the animation is smoother than in Gigermorph (or it's at least slower, which makes it seem smoother) and I particularly like some of the small pipes that grow out. The solid part in the middle was a Compact Disc player which I 'customised' with Milliput (two part epoxy putty) and paint into a bio-mechanical Giger style, with a large central eye and 'bone structures' in rings around it. Made in 2007.
(Originally without music, I continued on from 'Colour Jam' with Exillon's 'Opus' and added some glitchy Venetian Snares)

The fourth piece was originally for a university project and an animation competition called 'Design4Science'. We had to produce a 30 second animation about one of various scientific themes, I chose 'viruses and cells' and animated a virus cell 'taking over' a red blood cell. (The pink towels for the background were to make it seem inside the body) For the project and competition the animation was inter-cut with some titles, explaining "a virus cannot reproduce" and "a virus must hi-jack a cell" etc... but they interrupted the flow of the animation and so I made a version without. I made this in April 2007, before seeing Spider-Man 3 but I'm aware now it looks a lot like Venom.
(Originally for music I had used a very abrasive Datach'i track, but for this I used Des Plaines by Venetian Snares)

The fifth and final short is a collection of 'growing drawings', like those I first did in Gigermorph, animated - drawings in time lapse, in pencil, fountain pen ink and ball-point pen. Made between 2009 and 2010.

Music:
Exillon - Opus
Venetian Snares - Prophylactic Eyehead and Des Plaines
