Jimi Hendrix performing Sgt. Pepper. Originally by The Beatles.

COPYRIGHT INFO: Content owner: UMG

"As legend has it, a roadie handed Jimi the Sgt. Peppers record the first day it was released. The Experience also had a concert that same night w/Paul and John in attendence. So what does Jimi do? Jimi and the band learned this song in 15 min. in the dressing room before they were supposed to go on. Paul and John couldn't figure out how they learned the song so fast." -4JayeP

  • way better than a video of a cover band i just saw on here. they tried to copy the beatle, jimi adds a little of his own style in this version.

  • Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was released on a Friday, and Jimi played this song on the Sunday 2 days after. It was Sir Paul Mccartney himself who said that when he played in Sweden this December.

  • @himjl2 they were both great in their own ways.the beatles had more soulful catchy songs but hendrix was a guitar master and better performer.its a matter of opinion who is better.

  • Wow, I've always thought that Jimi Hendrix should've covered this song, cause it's like "his style" and damn was I right !

  • @LuciusEsox1 That's kinda unfair. Yes, the Beatles were better than Hendrix but the Beatles were just so incredible that anybody pales in comparison.

  • Jimi was such a natural he probably knew how to play the song before he picked up his guitar

  • @W0mpa Don't feel sorry! The music is still there to discover and enjoy. Check out some of my favorites. You may not have heard much of. The Animals, CCR, Cream, The Yardbirds, Bob Dylan, Iron Butterfly, Alice Cooper, The Kinks, The Ventures, T Rex, The Rascals, The Beach Boys, The Moody Blues, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Neil Young, Mitch Ryder, The Velvet Underground, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, The Zombies, and many to find yourself. You, are cool!

  • CORRECTION: Your "As legend has it" bit in the description section is off a bit.

This recording is from June 4, 1967 at London's Saville Theatre.

The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper album was released three days earlier on June 1, 1967 (not the same day of the show as you said).

Also, the two Beatles in attendance were Paul McCartney and George Harrison (not John Lennon).

It is true that the band rehearsed the song just before going on after they heard that Paul was in the audience.

  • 1:00 is so beautiful

  • @96morganism96 What's that band?

  • This is good,, but the Beatles at the top of their game were fucking incredible.
