The Colorado Eagles of the ECHL mic'd up Linesman Butch Mousseaux for a Colorado Eagles game at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, CO. For more videos and news go to ColoradoEagles.com.

The Colorado Eagles have joined the ECHL for the 2011-12 season. The ECHL, headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, is widely regarded as the level of hockey directly under the AHL, with the two leagues being the only ones officially recognized as direct minor league affiliates for NHL teams. Meaning that, a player signed to an NHL entry-level contract who is "designated for assignment" must report to a team in either the AHL or ECHL.

The ECHL (then known as the East Coast Hockey League) was founded in 1988 and featured a total of five teams in four states. Since then, it has grown tremendously, reaching its peak of 31 teams during the 2003-04 season. With the expansion across North America, the league officially changed its name to simply "ECHL" (to reflect the national reach of the league). The league now has 20 teams across 16 of the United States.

  • 2:20 "how come you never get on the kiss cam? you wanna, pumpkin?" LOL

  • I Love This Ref LMAO

  • Why on earth is he yalloping? "Woowoowoowoo!"

  • "How come you've never been on the kiss cam? Want to... pumpkin?" XD

  • @Rossco9898 No, they're both officials, one is a ref the other is a linesman. Regardless, the point is that objectivity is what's important, not whether he's a nice guy or not.

  • @CullTheLivingFlower the ref wearing a band on arm is an official they are all refs.

  • @KJelly3130 He's a linesman, not a ref, so he can be as buddy buddy as he wants to be, he's not the one calling penalties. Besides being friendly doesn't mean you can't be objective, which is all he's required to be.

  • @KJelly3130 look at it like a normal office. they're all co-workers. one of the biggest things they teach you in the officiating clinics every year is communication. Pleasant communication is key to dealing with fights and scuffles later on.

  • I know very little about hockey officiating but should he really be talking to the players like that? Refs shouldn't be trying to be buddy buddy with the players. Maybe he was just like this during this particular game cause he knew he was mic'd up.

  • why is he so happy!!!???!?!?!!! gotta love him!
