Dowry demands 'killing' Bengali women - 12 Dec 08

An ancient marriage custom is often leading to a life of suffering for many women in Bangladesh.

The Dowry, which is money and goods being transferred by a woman's family to her new husband, is officially banned in Bangladesh and India.

But it continues and it increasingly comes with abuse.

Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley reports from Dhaka, on how a demand for the dowry is leading to torture and even death.

The death penalty is 100% appropriate for this.

The families of the dowry criminals should also be put to trial and guilty accomplices be eligible for the death penalty too.

And in Islam, the dowry from husband in islam should not go to the girls family either. It should go to the bride alone. So its not families selling daughters. If they do that its not because of islam.
