  • All in all I'd say that's a pretty good video for the general public BUT would you please provide some verifiable empirical data to support your assertion that Sprague Atom electrolytic capacitors are in fact superior to , say, Illinois capacitors. I see your copy of one of Gerald Webers books back there and he says the same thing one of his books but other well respected amp techs ARE NOT supporting this info that used to be taken as gospel.

  • @macksledge Mr. Weber and I do not agree on alot of things and apparently like you, I also dislike taking unsupported theory from someone else. IC does make good caps (low ESR MWR series for example)! But you can't get them at Radio Shack. Most DIY's do not have the experience to search them out. Tube Amps 101 series of dvds is aimed at beginners so for ease of availability and replacement we recommend Sprague, F&T, Mallory. Most all "gurus" agree these are good quality caps.

  • What pin number do you attach the lead to? 3?

  • @Whitestingray81 Yes, Pin 3 is correct for 6L6s. Our DVD series - Tube Amps 101 lets you SEE and HEAR the sympyoms and watch the repair! If you want to work on your own amps, you really should check them out!

  • where are you??

  • @joeypinter90405 We are located in Conway, AR. 30 miles north of Little Rock.

  • my friend and amp tech in tulsa, rick potter, died 3 years ago of lou gherigs disease. i was devastated. hard to find...

  • @glprecycledsound Thanks!

  • @joeypinter90405 Heres why..... a Twin Reverb has FOUR 6L6 power tubes. When you shunt the OT, you are reading the voltage for TWO tubes! You must divide the result in HALF to determine what each tube is drawing. So in a FOUR power tuube amp, reading 60ma, each tube is drawing 30ma. The amp in our vid has just TWO power tubes, so we are reading each one.

  • this is confusing. i have a fender hotrod deville that i intend to retube and bias myself, i've always sent my amps out. i've also owned a lot of twin reverbs. what i like is for the amp to break up early, i don't use box's, i control the tone with the guitar. this is my question, looking at other posts (videos) i see fender bias' their 6L6's at 60mv for long life and clean and for a dirty sound 90mv. why such different values? please forgive my ignorance on electronic terminology
