  • The Rail4Chem locomotive is often used to give the first two (Belgian) locomotives extra force to pull their freight uphill towards Belgium untill they reach the Gemmenicher Tunnel where the tracks are bending down. At this moment the Montzenline (Aachen-West - Montzen) is totally electrified and feeded with 15kV AC. Soon electric locomotives (Traxx) will replace the Belgian 55 series to fasten up freighttransport between Germany and Belgium.

  • I've heard that there is a tunnel on the German-belgian border. And the electrified track is only at the German side. At the Belgian side the electrification ends.

That's why, German locomotives are used to push trains to the border. And then the trains are pulled by Belgian diesels.

This is unfortunately NOT my personal observation. This is what my firend told me.

However I was in these place in Winter 2005. I rode through Aachen West in 1999 and in 2005

  • And now, while electrification is progressing, and the Dieselsound wil expire in a few months on this line.....They are building (anti) sound-barriers in Aachen-West.

  • Never watch,locomotive from Rail4Chem push train (helper-locomotive).wow.
