OceanaGold, owner of the Didipio Gold Copper Project in the Philippines attended a workshop-conference on INDIGENOUS PEOPLEs CAPACITY BUILDING. Entitled Sharing Visions on IP Community-Focused on Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives, the conference was held on March 23-24, 2009 at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, Davao City.

The sponsor was the Trade Commission of the Canadian Embassy. Headed by Mr. Andrew Smith; Senior Trade Commissioner, Mr. Ramon Yazon; Senior Trade Head and Ms. Princess Apostol; Trade Commissioner Assistant.

Mining companies including Oceanagold Philippines Incorporated, Philex Mining Corporation, Apex Mining Corporation attended the conference. The NCIP Central and Regional Offices and the IPs of Mindanao (Mansaka, Mandaya,Tibuli,Manobo, etc.) were present.

Papers presented were "Key Governance Aspect of IPRA-CADT, ADSDPP,& FPIC, which was presented by Director Basilio Wandag of NCIP, "Sharing of Philippine experience as IP holder of Mining Claims" by IP Elder Vicente Castilliones and "Sharing the Canadian Experiences" by Romeo Crow Chief, President/Executive Director, Aboriginal Financial Officer Association (AFOA)-Alberta.
