Damn, I feared for his eyes! Yes, they all have this drawn tactic. If my interpretation is right, the one that was going to loose the fight, finally was able to hit the attacker rather successfully. It really looked like he was practically gone and dead. Ooff, I'm living with a herring gull that can't fly, so I can't take this stuff here so well. :(

They can take down and kill, anything from rabbits, to other seabirds with ease. And they are highly territoral birds, often much more aggressive, than any other gulls species. They are also much more "pelagic", or "open ocean" birds, than other gull species. Hence, the theory or reason, why they are so predatory.

That is EXACTLY what he was trying to do. I've been in the avian field, for nearly 25yrs now. And i can tell you from experience, these gulls for starters, are our largest gulls in the world. Around 30in to be exact, with around a 5.5ft wingspan. I live in Massachusetts on Cape Cod, and i see these birds constantly. Usually in groups, with there slightly smaller cousins, the Herring Gull. However, where these birds lack talons, like a hawk or eagle has, they make up for in beak power.
