Renee Fleming as Violeta and Ramon Vargas as Alfredo singing one of the duets from the the last act of Verd's La Traviata. Recorded Live from the Met, 6th March 2004, conductor Valerie Gergiev
But the handling of language is quite clumsy, strange enough. Emphasizing ..pian..TO! and ..tan..TO! Just in general, there is such emphasis on syllables instead of line..
Oy my God... she actually tries a different phrasing that Callas' here and it enormously good. Usually those who attempt phrasings different than Callas' fail disasterously. This is FANTASTIC!
Strong, intensely passionate singing by both artists! Bravi !! Beautiful pictures too. Thank you for posting. Wish the MET would release a DVD, at least a CD, of the live performance of this opera - this being Renee Fleming's first ever TRAVIATA at the MET, and with a wonderful Alfredo in Vargas.
