Turkeys south-western tip that stretches out into the Aegean Sea, the Datça Peninsula is long and narrow, separating the Gökova Bay from the Hisarönü Bay. At its narrowest point you can see both bays as youre driving along the road; called Balıkaşıran, it literally means the place where fish leap over. The peninsulas coast, as intricate as lace, provides exquisite vistas especially for those cruising along the shoreline. There are ancient windmills on the peninsula, a testament to the ever-present wind, which is absolutely delightful in the hot summer months. These days, wind turbines have inherited the breeze and turn and turn and generate energy. The air on the peninsula is said to be very high in oxygen. And while tourism is an important source of income, agricultural pursuits are also noteworthy, especially the olive and almond orchards. Also home to the ancient city of Knidos, the Datça Peninsula is definitely worth discovering.
