This amazing place is located 600 miles south of Tokyo, and accessable only by ferry. Virtually unknown to the Japanese themselves, these unspoiled, sparsely populated and remote islands are Japan's only remaining secret paradise. Also designated as a national park, the islands contain several native plant and animal species, and are kept natural and beautifully maintained by the Tokyo Government. エリック バーグ

  • wow who discoverd this oh 10th

  • Mr. Ogasawara san discovered these islands first, but then apparently left because they couldn't cultivate rice there. European whalers then came and settled. Later Japanese returned and settled together with the Europeans.

After the World War 2, The Americans took over and schooled all of the local islanders in English. The islands were returned to Japan in 1968.

  • Surfing seems so hard.. Does it take long to learn, or is it just basically standing on a board, and the wave does the rest? i bet the first one.

  • Stand-up Surfing is hard to learn, but riding waves on a bodyboard is much easier. I would be happy to teach you how to surf some day. Have you ever wanted to go to Hawaii?

  • Thanks Sugar, Yes the sunset`s in Ogasawara are spectacular and deep red covering the whole sky. Truly a paradise in Japan.

Stop trying to act like you're a genius when it comes to surfing. So what, he doesn't use exact terms, and his standards of waves are different than yours. Go troll someone else, or shut up and stop being a rear.

  • someday when im grown up im gonna visit this place (:

  • Full! Small! Short rides! Pretty crappy conditions! There are so many better places in Japan to surf. Oh! ,and BTW "One after the other" is called a set. Keep posting these crap waves though. It'll keep people away.
