Getting out of the 505, owning a 35 ft keel boat now... Still desperately searching the sensation a 505 offers so easily and all the time, no matter upwind or screaming downwind. I will sail at least one regatta this year, but have to reduce weight. The 505 is the best boat on this planet and will live forever!

@edshift I started sailing in Singapore in the late 70's and remember the 5o5's well. Guys like Jeffrey Leow, Alan Barnes and Alan Croll dominated the class back then. As a kid I thought they were the most amazing boats and having just had a good stickybeak at the fleet at Hammo for the 2011 Worlds, they still are.

No spinnaker... Disappointing

@vibratingstring Yes I was way underweight when I sailed one but it wasn't too bad. did well in light airs . It is such a good design that compared to some fast dinghies it is quite easy to sail.

I don't think you need a gorilla for a crew. it really isn't like the Star that way...
It's better that 505 was not an olympic class, look at the FD, his developemnt was dead since it was out from olympic status, meantime the 505 it's in always in developement.
505 it's a real monster class, I've got one and I think it's the best boat I've evere owned.
I will never change it!!!

My dad sailed 505s in Singapore in the early 70s.
I'd love one but you need to find a gorrilla for a crew.
Boats like 4000s make that sort of rush more accessible.
Problem is l4ks are unstable boats and incredibly hard to sail in low winds due to the rolly polly nature of the hull and wing combination.
Not quite as hairy chested but still awesome.
Always wanted a 505...
:-))))
