i decided to go a cheaper route and forget bout putting the header on my 99 Legacy, instead i did it customly, i cut off all the old tubing from the exhaust flang back, right before the resonator, and replaced it with a 2 1/2 inch in/out Thrush Glasspack Muffler and ran 2 1/2 inch piping all the way back, so i got rid of the old piping from the cats back, and got rid of the resonator, it sounds almost like and STI when u rev it past 3000 RPM.

@RMPreza Cool. I'm on NASIOC and LegacyGT. I looked it up but there was a borla rep on NASIOC that said they have addressed it. Not sure that it's worth the extra $230 for the name. I'm the same way with my guitars and food. I'm not necessarily all about name. I have an epiphone les paul and have swapped out a bunch of crap on it to make it better. Speaking of which I have some tuning pegs waiting for me at Guitar Center. I think i'm going to go you're route and stay cheap. Thanks!

does anybody have headers for sale??
what size exhaust piping did u go with 2.5"? and did u remove your cat inplace of high flow?

@flyboyondeck
I used 3 inch just because I got the exhaust free from my bro's WRX but if you have a choice I'd go with 2.25" or 2.5" if you go with cams and ect. I left all my cats in place.
The car actually has a '04 WRX drivetrain swap now.

@RMPreza kool well i just bought a 97 subaru legacy gt 2.5l so i would like to know whats the best route to go with it? my plan is 2.5" exhaust piping,uel header,and intake is there anything else i can do to get more performance out of it? oh and i wanna remove the stock cat and put a high flow cat will it throw a cel on or no?

@flyboyondeck
I'm not 100% sure if it would throw a CEL or not...the headers alone can throw a CEL but that is usually on the '99+ with the ej251.
Lightweight flywheel and/or pullies can help make the engine rev up a little quicker and transfer a little bit more power to the wheels.
Other than that...nothing sort of a high-compression build would yield you results but thats more money than its worth.
In my opinion, suspension is the greatest thing you can do to a car. Lower,sway-bars,endlinks.

I'm sold. What makes you say the replicas are stronger? Just curious. I see them on ebay for $155 with shipping and the borlas for $382 with shipping so the difference is substantial.

I am active on a few Subaru forums online and this is a very common question. Basically what makes everyone come to this conclusion is that 98% of Borla owners have experienced cracks in the welds on their header and I have yet to experience anyone saying that their Replica has cracked. Its rare but this is one case where you can get better quality for cheaper. Paying for the name isn't always worth it.
